Preliminary steps before starting painting the building

Before starting painting the house, gather the house’s furniture as much as possible and put it together. You can stack the items in the center of the house and cover them with cloth and plastic to keep them from staining.

Disconnect the switches and sockets, the fuse, and the intercom. By doing this, you can paint the inside of the wall behind them and prevent them from becoming colored. Put the switches and sockets in a box or plastic bag and move them to a safe place.

Remove chandeliers, sconces, and wall lamps if possible. Cover ceiling lights such as halogen lamps with special adhesive tape or plastic, so they do not stain.

Cover the floor with a tarp or waterproof cloth. Plastic is not suitable for this purpose because it does not absorb paint, as it causes the spilled paint to stay wet.

Cover the baseboards with duct tape and take out the bubbles from underneath using a bench scraper.

Start the process of painting the house

If there is a lot of physical damage to the wall, you must first fix them. If you need to sand after plastering, be sure to clean the wall well after sanding, so that excess particles do not stick to the brush and paint. You can use a primer after plastering. The primer prevents the transfer of moisture to the paint and makes it more durable.

First, paint one wall completely and then move on to the other wall. You can use a roller to keep your walls safe from brush marks. Even after painting with a brush, if you roll the roller on the paint surface, it will reduce the brush traces. It is best to use a roller for large parts and a brush for corners.

One of the most challenging parts of painting is the meeting point of two walls with different colors. To leave a smooth line, use a sharp tool such as a screwdriver for scratching the walls’ connecting line. In this case, the brush’s extra paint is inserted into this groove, leaving a smoother line.

Choosing the right tool for painting a building

To buy a roller, pay attention to its width. If you choose a large roller, the paint may be thrown around while painting the wall. The material and quality of the roller are also important. Please do not go for the cheapest roller on the market, as the fabric might become brittle and stick to the wall.

For latex or acrylic paints, synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester are suitable, but for oil paints, use natural fabrics. Wash the roller before use to not transfer lint, crack, or dust particles on it to the wall’s wet paint.

Natural brushes are suitable for oil paints, but synthetic paints, such as acrylic and plastic, use synthetic brushes. A quality brush may be more expensive, but rest assured that no brush fibers will remain on the wall while painting. The size of the brush should not be large as it might become difficult to control. Flathead brushes are recommended for larger spaces and angled brushes for smaller and more delicate parts. Hold your brush like a pencil, and do not treat it like a hammer.

Other essential points in house-painting training

  • Start painting from the top of the wall and close to the ceiling and work your way down.
  • Painting the walls of the house should be done in the best light and with proper ventilation.
  • After each coat of paint, depending on the type of paint used, wait for the layers to dry completely.
  • Remove extra paint on the brush to avoid paint drops on the walls.
  • Use a mask when using oil paints and chemical solvents.
  • Beware of thinners and oils and keep them away from flames and heat.
  • Glossy colors reflect light and may show more flaws on the wall..
